Ireland’s largest timber supplier, the McMahon Group, reduced its operating losses to €4.2m (2009: €7.8m) in 2009.

The timber importing and builders merchant operation, part of Derevoya Holdings Ltd, also saw its sales nearly halved to €77m during the year.

The Limerick-based business, which was founded in the 1830s and operates 13 branches, made 136 job cuts during the year – about a third of the workforce – helping to reduce losses.

The group had debts of €70.3m at the end of 2009 but was confident of meeting its obligations.
