Florida-based Masonite has acquired 100% of the shares of Door-Stop, which employs around 200 people at its 117,000ft2 site in Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire and is regarded as the UK’s largest pre-hanger and distributor of composite exterior residential doors and doorsets.

Masonite’s UK division – Premdor – operates from a 400,000ft2 factory near the M1 in Barnsley, manufacturing timber interior and exterior doors, plus timber windows.

Door-Stop’s product portfolio of composite doors, featuring a GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) compression moulded skin over a polyurethane thermally-insulated core, gives Masonite a foothold in the UK composite door market.

"We believe the acquisition of Door-Stop positions Masonite as a leader in the manufacturing and distribution of residential doors and doorsets for the UK market," said Chris Virostek, Masonite’s senior vice-president of corporate development.

Masonite UK general manager Robin Maker described the UK composite door market "as an exciting place to be".

Door-Stop founder Gary Dutton said the company’s products were a natural complement to Masonite’s business.
