Malaysia has protested against Indonesia’s latest accusations of it being involved in smuggling illegal timber.

Malaysia’s plantation industries and commodities minister Peter Chin Fah Kui rejected the claims after attending a function in Putrajaya.

The minister stressed that timber products could only be imported from Indonesia with the correct documentation, and only through authorised points of entry.

He also listed the measures introduced by Malaysia to stop illegal timber being transported from Indonesia, including a round log ban and participation in the EU’s Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade process.
