Abusiness reshuffle at Magnet will create two new operating divisions – one to supply products to the expanding kitchen, bedroom and office furniture market and the other to supply joinery and comm-odity timber products.
A £2m investment programme, mainly in kitchen showroom development across the country, will streamline operations but could lead to some job losses.
Staff at Magnet’s Keighley head office will move to existing Magnet sites at Cross Flatts in Bingley and Darlington while direct sales staff based at Cross Flatts will relocate to Magnet’s factories in Keighley, Penrith, Darlington and Flint.
Managing director Gary Favell said head office personnel would be given the chance to relocate and he hoped any job losses would be minimal.
He added: ‘We are investing significantly in the future of the business and these moves are the latest element in our development plan.’
There has been speculation about the future of Magnet’s joinery section (TTJ July 21/28) following its sale to Swedish kitchen company Nobia.
