Magnet is the first UK volume flush door manufacturer to qualify for Forest Stewardship Council accreditation.

The company’s Penrith fac-tory has just begun to supply the FSC-certified internal doors and manufacturing manager Ray Simpson is convinced that, once in the market place, builders, specifiers and consumers will demand them.

He said: ‘We’re proud to be championing an initiative that protects and maintains the environment. FSC is simple yet succinct and provides complete traceability but without any com- promise on quality or pricing.’

Alasdair McGregor, timber certification manager at accreditation body Trada-Trak, said the FSC logo had the potential to be the most powerful marketing tool in the industry but a household brand name and a company with joinery heritage had still been needed to front it.

He said: ‘Magnet are both manufacturer and retailer and perfectly placed to bring the FSC message into the mainstream.’

Magnet’s FSC accreditation follows ISO 9002, the Health & Safety 5 Star Award and Investors in People. The com-pany is also working towards Best in Class manufacturing systems and the ISO 14001 environmental management system.
