Already used by manufacturers and architects in North America, Lyptus is produced at plantations in Brazil, includes solid wood, plywood and veneer products and has been developed through Weyerhaeuser‘s relationship with Aracuz Produitos de Madeira.

“With a declining global wood supply, the need for alternatives to endangered tropical hardwood species is pressing,” said John Guerin, Weyerhaeuser European commercial director.

“The availability of Lyptus products in Europe is therefore a major breakthrough for those involved in the specification or production of timber products.”

The arrival of Lyptus in Europe follows the start of imports of Forrestar eucalyptus and pine plywood from Uruguay, which is the first step in a South American expansion programme by Weyerhaeuser.

Mr Guerin noted that the company would be establishing more mills and production facilities across the continent over the coming years and that, while nothing was set in concrete yet, the expansion would be big as Weyerhaeuser has been active in South America since the mid-90s and now has a lot of mature timber to process.
