Cameroon is losing between 80,000-200,000 ha (0.6%) of forest every year due to intensive logging, a report has discovered.
The survey by the United Nations Development Programme and the Food and Agriculture Organisation says uncontrolled ‘exploitation’ is threatening the country’s prized wood species.
Environmental groups blame the situation on the demand for timber exports, especially in Asian countries.
