The UN has decided to maintain timber sanctions on Liberia in order to protect the fragile peace in the war-ravaged country.

Liberia’s interim leader, Gyude Bryant, had appealed to the UN to lift the sanctions to boost government revenue and foster stability in the nation.

The mandate of experts monitoring the sanctions will be extended until the end of the year and the UN will wait for their next report before reviewing the situation.

The ban on Liberian timber exports was introduced last July.
