Russian timber information and trade e-market system Lesprom.ru saw 560 sale and purchase trading positions exceeding US$197.4m posted on its site during 2004.
The largest amount of trading was registered in the “sawn timber section” which saw 266 sale positions worth US$50.65m, and 161 purchase positions worth US$100.98m. The “round timber, saw logs” section saw 50 sale positions worth US$4.13m and 65 purchase positions worth US$36.64m.
The company said that its data shows that by January 19 it had 10,920 registered users, representing 10,400 companies and institutions from 100 countries. It said 10 new users operating in the timber, pulp and paper industries register on Lesprom.ru each day, and that the site receives 1,500 hits a day from timber sector professionals.
Lesprom.ru, which has opened offices in the Khabarovsk region, Finland and Minsk, said its development strategy for 2005 includes the expansion of information resources through the launch of information and analytic products. It also intends to develop operations in eastern Europe.
