Arnold Laver is to establish a new distribution depot in east London to take advantage of the construction of the 2012 Olympic Games.

The site in Rainham will allow Lavers to supply London and the south-east, including Essex and Kent, with a range of products from its stock. It will also include a customer Call Collect service from the summer.

Lavers was recently the subject of a management buy-in, with managing director Andrew Laver leading the purchase from the family trust which had operated it since Arnold Laver died in 1971.

Of the management buy-in, Mr Laver said that the deal was part of a plan to expand the company’s timber merchanting operations, and reiterated this following the announcement of the Rainham depot.

“Rainham is the next stage in the expansion plans for the group and provides us with an ideal base to provide a first class service across south-east England and the capital,” said Mr Laver.

“The recent management buy-in provided the platform to allow the group to press on with its expansion plans for its timber merchanting division as well as leisure and property divisions. Rainham will drive a number of new opportunities for us.”
