Latvian plywood producer JSC Latvijas Finieris has suffered a fire at its Riga factory.

The fire at the Lignums mill broke out after thermo-oil ignited at the mill pumping station.

“The cause of the fire and associated losses is being evaluated by experts,” a company spokesperson told TTJ. “More updates will follow when available.”

The mill’s heat supply and other infrastructure is gradually being restored and full production and normal operation were expected to be back on line this week.

“Latvian Plywood has several factories so there will be no significant impact on production volumes,” said Uldis Bikis, JSC Latvian Plywood board chairman.

“There may be just a small change in delivery times, which will be co-ordinated with customers.”
