An Interfor-owned sawmill in British Columbia became the latest victim in the Canada/US softwood lumber war last week.
Some 170 workers were laid off at the Squamish sawmill – the latest in an estimated 15,000 people put out of work since the US imposed a 19.3% duty on Canadian softwood lumber in August.
The US government is due to rule on an anti-dumping complaint by the US forestry industry on October 15. If that ruling goes against Canada, an additional duty will be levied.
