Sector Skills Council Lantra has been awarded a five year licence which will enable it to increase skills across the trees and timber industry.

The licence was handed over by the secretary of state for education and skills, Charles Clarke, at a reception and skills debate at the House of Commons.

The skills debate, hosted by TV presenter Nick Ross, gave employers and industry representatives the opportunity to have their say on skills issues affecting the sector.

Clarifying its role, Lantra said it is not a provider of training but a strategic body with responsibility for providing a crucial link between employers, training providers and government on skills issues.
