The Rietburg-based manufacturer, which also operates a large used machinery sales operation, is reducing its number of employees and a restructuring manager Dr Holger Schmeisser has been appointed to lead the changes.

"The markets have changed faster than Kuper," Mr Schmeisser said.

"Adjustments are needed now as well as further changes in the foreseeable future to secure the future viability of Kuper."

Mr Schmeisser said Kuper had not recovered as much as had hoped since the 2008/09 economic downturn.

The used machinery business will be discontinued as an independent business and instead integrated into the main Kuper operations.

Some 109 workers’ positions are affected by the restructuring, while a wages freeze is being implemented in 2014 and 2015.
Kuper also said an inheritance dispute had been resolved, with Hans-Heinrich Kuper now the sole shareholder of the firm.

Kuper, which manufactures planer/moulders and veneer cutting and splicing machines, will be exhibiting its technology at Holz-Handwerk 2014 in Nuremberg on March 26-29. The SWT XL planer/moulder equipped with the ProLock quick clamping system will be one of the machines on display.
