Kronospan Luxembourg SA has announced the successful production of its first panel of particleboard (PB) made entirely from 100% recycled wood.
The completion of the plant, which features a Siempelkamp press, gives Kronospan a full suite of panel products on the Sanem site – PB, OSB and MDF.
The 9 ft x 58.7m format press will have a particleboard capacity of around 3,000m3 per day or an estimated 900,000m3 annually.
WBPI reported in our Annual PB survey last year that the plant had been due to start production in Q1,2024, but some delays pushed out the commencement date until June.
“This milestone marks a significant expansion in our manufacturing capabilities and reinforces our commitment to environmental responsibility and resource optimisation,” Kronospan said in a statement.
“With the addition of 100% recycled wood PB and with the first of 3 new melamine facing lines already operational we are enhancing our product mix and offering the most comprehensive range from one production site to the market.”
Kronospan Luxembourg also features advanced energy solutions, including three combined heat and power (CHP) plants. These CHP’s generate more electricity than the factory consumes, with the surplus being exported and sold to the national grid.
The company is currently constructing an additional two new melamine-facing lines and a state-of-the-art, fully automatic high bay warehouse. These advancements will improve product options streamline logistics.
Kronospan said the production represent Luxembourg’s first 100% recycled wood PB.
