More than £3m has been invested in a new flooring line at Kronospan‘s Chirk headquarters, increasing production capacity from around 11 million m2 to 19 million m2.
The move is part of a major initiative to become more flexible and take customer service to unprecedented standards, according to sales director Tony Meehan.
He said: “The investment in the new line will allow us to take this flexibility of approach to new levels and it means we will be able to offer competitively priced products in variable load sizes.”
The new line will also help the firm’s value-added division, Kronoplus, which turns Kronospan’s core product range into items such as kitchen worktops and laminate flooring.

The Kronoplus customer base encompasses DIY, floorcovering wholesalers, retailers, furniture manufacturers, decorative distributors and builders merchants. Installation of the line enables the company to deliver as little as a single pallet of a particular product line in mixed vehicle loads to a customer.
The line is fully operational and the company has already booked new business to take a significant proportion of the total capacity. Kronospan has also invested in alternative press plates enabling it to produce a wide range of rustic, textured finishes on its laminate floor range.
