Mr Cheshire was knighted for services to business, sustainability and the environment.

He has been Kingfisher CEO since 2008. Before that he spent three years at the helm of B&Q, leading significant changes at the DIY retailer, including changing the format at large stores and renewing product ranges.

Mr Cheshire also holds a string of other positions, including chairman of the British Retail Consortium, senior independent director of Whitbread plc and lead non-executive director on the Department for Work and Pensions board.
