Pontefract-based Kinsley Timber Supplies, run by mother and son team Gillian and John Sherry, has seen turnover grow from £100,000 in 1992 to about £400,000-500,000 in 2006.

Plans include developing adjacent land to offer a wider range of hardware, building products and power tools.

The company’s roots go back to 1946, when John Kenworthy Leach founded JK Leach & Co. The name was changed to Kinsley in the 1970s.

“We get a lot of custom from people who won’t go to the big companies because they don’t get that personal service,” said managing director John Sherry.
