Kebony modified wood will feature in the Chelsea Flower Show’s first Norwegian garden.
The material is being used for a “living cube” and decking in the “Kebony – Naturally Norway” garden designed by Darren Saines, who has worked with the modified wood on a number of projects.
Mr Saines said the Norwegian-made Kebony had low-maintenance credentials.
The “Kebonisation” process involves hardening species such as pine and maple using waste materials from sugarcane production to create a product that is designed to mirror the performance of tropical hardwoods.
Durisol blocks, made from 80% recycled wood and treated to resist rot, will form the boundary walls of the garden.
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show will take place on May 24-29.
