The largest red wood and white wood shipment that KDM International plc has ever brought into the UK has landed at Barrow Haven, near Grimsby.
The 3,800m³ was despatched from KDM’s dedicated quay at St Petersburg and was primarily sourced from one sawmill in Karelia where KDM has an ongoing exclusive UK and Ireland supply agreement. KDM says the shipment is likely to take imports of red and white wood from Russia this year to 15,000m³, the majority of which will be from Karelia.
KDM first opened a Russian office a year ago to liaise directly with sawmills and to develop long-term partnerships.
The timber is graded to KDM’s bespoke grading rules designed for the UK and Irish markets.
