Swiss prefabricated house manufacturer Zimmeerei Kühni AG has taken delivery of the world’s largest vertical beam saw.

The Elcon Advance² Quadra, almost 4m high and 10m long, has been installed at the company’s Ramsei factory in Emmental in order to process rough walls to final end sizes in one operation.

Walls are placed on to the automatic Quadra using a crane and clamped with four reinforced Advance clamps. The walls are then lifted and cut to size at the bottom and sides.

The operator controls saw positioning, panel positioning and sizing over both axis, including trimming by pressing one button. Programs are entered on a separate PC and sent to the machine through the local company network, removing the need for size adjustment and handling of material.

Elcon saws are distributed in the UK by Nottingham-based Daltons.
