The last chapter in the 117-year history of joinery manufacturer and contractor JW Taylor Ltd is being written following a sale of the company’s assets.

An auction held by Fox Lloyd Jones at the company’s Harrogate premises, on behalf of the adminstrators BWC Business Solutions, was said to have realised far more than expected.

Assets sold included a variety of woodworking machinery, such as a Masterwood Winner, Weinig Unimat, SCM T160 spindle moulder, Altendorf F45 saw bench, Boere calibration sander, Stenner resaw and a variety of Wadkin machines.

Vehicles, a Boss sideloader and a dust extraction system were also included in the auction.

JW Taylor, a member of the British Woodworking Federation and accredited under TRADA’s Q-Mark fire door installation scheme, had invested heavily in new equipment at modern 20,000ft² workshops in recent years and renamed itself Taylor before going into administration in November.

“The company suffered in the current climate, had a few bad debts and has pension liabilities,” said a spokesperson for the administrators.

The company’s work included interior fitting out, joinery contracting, specialist joinery and the supply and installation of doorsets.
