John Merry, managing director of Oregon Timber Frame Ltd for the past 10 years, has retired.

Mr Merry, whose career spans 45 years in the building industry, became managing director in 1998 when he led the management buyout of the company’s predecessor organisation, the Oregon Development Company. Prior to that he worked for George Wimpey Group.

During his leadership Mr Merry was instrumental in the development of Oregon Timber Frame, which has grown from a small manufacturer employing 11 people, to a company with a turnover at year end 2008 of £19.5m, and sales in excess of £100m.

“It has been hugely satisfying to head a company which has played such a key role in bringing modern, energy-efficient, sustainable technology to the construction industry. Over the years I’ve got a real kick from seeing an empty site which within days is occupied with housing units and within weeks with people needing and wanting modern homes. That’s the beauty of offsite construction,” he said.
