John Brash has become the latest timber firm to announce job losses off the back of the struggling private housebuilding market.

The timber importer and manufacturer said it has entered a 30-day consultation period with staff representatives to try and keep job losses to a minimum, although it has been reported in the local press that as many as 50 jobs are under threat.

John Brash said any redundancies would be part of its move to remain competitive and meet the challenges of the current market.

“We are working closely with staff representatives to keep job losses to a minimum, however, it is a sign of the difficult market conditions we face,” a spokesperson for the company said.

“By doing this, we hope to keep our business competitive and, by responding to market conditions, ensure we keep control of our costs.”

The Gainsborough-based company sells a range of timber products, including carcassing, roofing battens, anti-slip decking, cladding and shingles and shakes.

Pasquill Roof Trusses, Howarth Timber Engineering, OSB build system producer Panaloc and Hickman Industries Ltd have all announced job losses in recent months, along with national housebuilders Persimmon, Barratt and Taylor Wimpey.
