A local council has held a careers event to help 75 former employees of joinery manufacturer JDS Plaswood who lost their jobs after the company closed.
Breckland Council’s event was held on March 13 to help Plaswood employees “get back into work quickly”.
Watton-based Plaswood closed after parent company JDS group, an interior fit-out specialist with 350 employees and a £30m turnover, went into adminstration last month due to cash flow difficulties.
Breckland Council said it was disappointed Plaswood had closed.
“The council has been informed that administration is as a result of a number of factors, including a change in economic conditions and increased competition in the market place,” it said.
“Our immediate concern is to help those who have been made redundant find new jobs,” added council leader William Nunn.
Other JDS group firms – Yellowlake Ltd, JDS Architectural Panels Ltd and Joinery Display Systems Ltd – are currently being run by administrator Kroll Corporate Advisory & Restructuring Group.
Kroll said it had received a number of expressions of interest in the business and was “hopeful” of finding a buyer soon.
JDS Group Ltd’s work extends to the retail, library, education, trade and commcrcial sectors.
Plaswood was purchased by JDS in 2006, when it said the takeover was part of a “five-year strategic development programme”.
