Jewson has announced that four of its sites in east London will now only stock Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified timber and sheet materials.
The sites, in Leytonstone, Barking, Stratford and the Bow branch of Castle Timber, now guarantee that all ex-stock softwood and sheet materials are in line with government procurement policies and that they are “fully traceable from the forest to the point of use”.
The company added that the move would enable it to meet the requirements for supplying timber and other wood-based products to the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).
“Jewson’s decision to make four of its branches 100% certified will support the environment and enable us to meet the ODA’s criterion,” said sustainability and quality director Steve Millward.
“We hope that the four branches will provide a sustainable solution for all our customers, from the local builder right through to those working on large scale projects such as the construction of the London 2012 Olympic site,” said Tony Newman, Jewson sales director.
