Steve Millward, Jewson‘s environmental director, made the assertions following the company’s recent conference of construction industry suppliers, where green procurement, environmentally friendly logistics and greater communication in the industry were widely discussed.

Half of those attending the conference said that the Olympic Delivery Authority‘s sustainability targets had already changed how their business operated and that their sourcing of raw materials would be affected, with 68% adding that they expected their supply chains to alter with increasing demand for sustainable building materials.

“[We] constantly look for ways to reduce the impact of Jewson’s operations on the environment through waste management initiatives, examining our logistics operations and sourcing of products, such as chain of custody timber,” said Mr Millward.

“I’m delighted to now have the opportunity to work with our suppliers to find solutions that will help reduce the carbon footprint of the whole industry.”

Jewson has already put the wheels in motion to improve the construction industry’s carbon footprint by creating working groups to discuss green procurement and minimising waste, logistics and alternative transport and communications.
