Independent door distributor JB Kind has acquired STP Group’s distribution arm from administrators, including the latter’s stock and warehouse facilities at Leeds and Bristol.

But administrators are winding down STP’s manufacturing site at New Mills. Fifty-two staff have already been made redundant at New Mills, and the remaining 40 will go when production ceases around the end of October.

JB Kind, based near Burton upon Trent, said the acquisition of STP Distribution also included office facilities at the Leeds and Bristol sites and the retention of 33 STP staff there.

“Both companies are known for their quality wooden doors,” said JB Kind managing director Philip Smith.

“However, they traditionally cover different customer markets. STP is known for its cost-effective mainstream doors whereas JB Kind provides customers with a greater choice of premium products. The merging of these two companies creates excellent synergy and a wealth of exciting future opportunities.”

STP Group administrators Ernst & Young hope to make an announcement soon on the company’s Wakefield manufacturing site, which employs 21 people.
