Shipments reached 1.16 billion board feet in the first half of the year, up 12% on the comparable period in 2005. Exports to Japan were also up 12% at 776 million board feet.

Japan is by far the largest overseas destination and the increase is a sharp contrast to the 20% plummet in business with the country during 2005.

A strong housing market and a solid economy in Japan led to the surge in imports.
