The Swedish company, which has operations in north-west Russia and eastern Siberia, increased sawlog harvesting 122% to 192,158m3 compared to 86,287m3 in the second quarter.

Sawnwood production rose 24% to 69,416m3 from 55,670m3 in the previous quarter.

The Magistralny sawmill continued to increase volumes to Japan, with the share of sawnwood sales rising to 62% compared with 27% in the second quarter and 11% in the first quarter.

In the third quarter the mill’s average sawnwood price rose by 36% to US$220/m3 compared with January 2013.

"We continue to increase volumes to Japan at an average sales price more than 35% higher than the company’s previous sales to the Middle East and North Africa," said chief operating officer Anton Bogdanov.

At its loss-making Boguchany mill, RusForest raised the average sawnwood price by 10% in September to July but the company says the mill’s long-term profitability "remains challenging".
