The Philippines is to receive US$100m of Japanese funding for a government scheme to help protect the country’s forestry.

The Japan Bank for International Co-operation has agreed stump up more cash for the second phase of the Forestry Sector Project (FSP). It initially poured US$75m into the scheme in 1993.

The FSP seeks to improve forest cover in degraded areas and living standards of residents; conserve biodiversity; and control soil erosion.
