James Jones & Sons Ltd’s timber systems division is positioning itself to benefit from the changing I-joist supplier market after completing a £1m investment which has doubled its JJI-Joist production capacity.

The £1m spend at Forres has delivered a new web room with a capacity of 12 million linear metres of OSB web stock on a single shift basis.

“It completes the first phase of a major investment programme which will allow us to capitalise on the increasing specification of JJI-Joists in floors, walls and roofs,” said the division’s general manager Brian Robertson.

“It will also allow us to benefit from recent changes in the I-joist supplier market and positions us strategically for the upturn when it occurs,”

The web room consists of a system from US-based Globe Machine Manufacturing Company. A Biesse booksaw is integrated with a Globe profiling line to provide a high-speed, fully-automated web production.

Mr Robertson admitted the market was currently depressed but the division’s design office remained busy working on some major public and private infrastructure projects.
