James Jones & Sons Ltd’s Timber Systems Division has embarked on the first phase of a strategic production capacity expansion to meet future demand for its JJI-Joists.

A £1m investment has been made in a new web line currently being installed at the division’s Forres manufacturing plant. Further expansion of production will take combined investment up to £6m.

“The company has seen strong growth for its product over the past few years and we are now gearing up for further growth in demand for I-joists due to the increasing specification of JJI-Joists in floors and more recently in walls and roofs,” said division general manager Brian Robertson.

“We remain very confident that we can maintain our strong UK manufacturing base delivering quality, service and technical expertise through further investment in machinery and personnel.”

Further projects will involve a second finger-jointing line, expected to come on stream in 2009, which will provide the required volume of flange material for the current and future JJI-Joist manufacturing lines.

This will be closely followed by the installation of a third I-joist line, allowing a total prodcution capacity of about 20 million linear metres.

James Jones has conducted several trials of its JJI-Joists in roofing applications with national housebuilders.
