“Wood – a Modern Material for a Modern World” will be the theme for the Institute of Wood Science‘s (IWSc) 50th anniversary Jubilee Conference in London.

The topic is designed to reflect a growing interest in wood science and the IWSc’s confidence in its future.

Keynote speakers at the event will be editor of RIBA Journal Amanda Baillieu and furniture designer/maker Luke Hughes. Professor Arturo Dell’ Acqua will discuss current technology and innovation in wood for architecture, while Dr Peter Bonfield, managing director of BRE Construction, will assess the future for wood.

Two case studies and a review of the 2005 Wood Awards winners will complete the conference programme, to be held at Carpenters’ Hall on November 3. More than 200 people are expected to attend.
