Australian forestry and timber company ITC Ltd has achieved chain of custody (CoC) certification under the Australian Forest Standard (AFS).

AFS has approved the award for ITC’s Tasmanian timber products, which will now carry the organisation’s mark.

The National Association of Forest Industries (NAFI) said CoC approval was a surefire way of ensuring ITC’s customers received environmentally sound products.

“Forest certification is the most cost-effective way of ensuring that consumers can be satisfied that timber products come from legal and sustainable sources,” said Catherine Murphy, NAFI chief executive officer.

“The AFS provides these guarantees of sustainability and is internationally recognised by the world’s largest forest certification network, the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes.”

ITC manages 150,000ha of timber plantations across Australia, as well as being the country’s largest hardwood processor.
