Acimall, the Italian woodworking machinery and tools manufacturers’ association, has posted a 9.8% decline in the value of Italian woodworking machinery production to €1.55bn, with exports sales down 8% to €1.17bn.
Acimall said it was "impossible" to tell what 2013 would bring and called for the Italian government to lend support to the industry.
"We are confident that 2013 can be a year of consolidation," said Paolo Zanibon, Acimall general manager.
"The Ligna event in Hanover, the biggest exhibition in our industry, will provide a clearer vision of the trends on the major destination markets for the Italian industry, even if we think we will have to wait until 2014 to talk about recovery."
