The Irish government and the timber frame sector are inviting tenders for the development of a national code of practice for timber frame dwellings.

The project, co-funded by the Irish Timber Frame Manufacturers Association (ITFMA) and the department of the environment, heritage and local government, follows recommendations made in the government’s Report on Timber Frame Housing (2003) and the ITFMA’s strong drive for a code of practice for on-site workers.

Alan McKenna, ITFMA chairman, said: “Work practice on sites with regard to all forms of construction is sometimes not up to expected standards or requirements. It is in the interest of all timber frame manufacturers that we support site workers in developing their standards and ensuring excellent workmanship.”
