Timber frame has been used for the Irish government’s first Affordable Housing Initiative development in Dublin.

Noel Ahern, Ireland’s minister for housing and urban renewal, opened the first 50 units at Dún Saithne, Balbriggan.

Keenan Timber Frame manufactured the houses for Fingal County Council as part of an integrated scheme comprising 113 social and 64 affordable units.

Mr Ahern said: “The launch of this scheme is a clear indication of the government’s continuing commitment to providing good quality housing at affordable prices.”

Alan McKenna, chairman of the Irish Timber Frame Manufacturers’ Association, said: “Timber frames’ obvious benefits in terms of quality manufacturing, engineered reliability, speed or construction have been recognised by Fingal County Council.

“Timber frame continues to make strong headway in the private domestic dwellings market. This successful affordable housing scheme may be used as a flagship for other county councils.”
