The Authority for Work Safety and TÜV are continuing their investigations into a boiler explosion which killed three workers at Egger’s Brilon chipboard plant in Germany earlier this month.

The explosion happened at lunchtime on February 5, shortly after a replacement thermal oil boiler was installed at the plant, which has also been improving is production facilities.

The employees who lost their lives were aged 21, 59 and 62.

Egger said it was fully supporting the investigation. The company has not yet made any estimates at the cost of the damage.

Around 1,000 people are employed at the Brilon plant.
