The organisers of Interzum say exhibitor numbers are holding up well for the biennial international trade fair for furniture production and wood interiors show to be held in Cologne on May 23-27.

“We expect more than 1,500 exhibitors from 60 countries, with 75% of them from outside Germany, and around 60,000 visitors with 60% of them coming from abroad,” said Wolfgang Krantz of Kölnmesse.

He forecast that the issue of design will again be an important factor, shaping the future for the furniture and interior design industry.

A feature of the show, for the second time, will be the ‘Interzum award: intelligent material and design’, to be judged by an international jury. The veneer design competition will also be held for the second time.

Other events include an architect’s forum, daily upholstered furniture workshops, a green innovation special show, an International Sleep Products Association special show, and a forum called ‘The fascination of surfaces’ presenting the functions and value of decorative surfaces.
