International Timber of Manchester was named Timber Trader of the Year at the seventh annual TTJ Awards.

The prize, sponsored by UCM Timber plc, was presented to the company’s managing director John Bagshaw during the event held at London’s Savoy Hotel on September 11.

International Timber won most votes across all categories and also took the General Trader of the Year title, sponsored by Arch Timber Protection.

This year’s awards attracted 258 guests and were hosted by architect, TV and radio broadcaster and former RIBA president Maxwell Hutchinson. In his speech, he challenged the industry to develop ideas and timber home systems to “tantalise” the minds of creative architects and meet the projected shortage in UK housing.

The Hardwood Trader of the Year award, sponsored by the American Hardwood Export Council, was won by Timbmet Group Ltd, Oxford, while Finnforest (UK) Ltd of Boston scooped the Softwood Trader of the Year title, sponsored by Associated British Ports.

Newport-based Premier Forest Products was named Panels Trader of the Year, sponsored by Weyerhaeuser Europe Ltd, and the Plywood Trader of the Year title, sponsored by Lord Forest Products Ltd, was won by Caledonian Plywood (South) Ltd of Tilbury.

The Small Trader of the Year prize, sponsored by Osmose, was presented to Spalding-based Select Timber Products Ltd, while the Excellence in Marketing title, sponsored by Combilift Ltd, went to Nexfor Ltd for its Caberdecor promotional campaign.

A new category at this year’s awards was Trainee of the Year, won by James White of James Latham plc.
