The event will take place on September 18-23. On the first day there will be a visit to an excavation site at the ancient harbour of Istanbul where, to date, eight wooden ships have been found dating back to the 11th and 12 centuries.

The following day there will be a chance to see the Harem building, a timber structure at the Topkapi Palace Museum.

On September 20 there will be a full day conference titled “Why save historic timber buildings”, which is the theme of the whole event.

Delegates will be able to see the traditional timber houses of the Eastern Black Sea region, located in a little-visited mountain environment, on September 21, and the wooden houses of Rize, Camlihemsin, Ayder and Surmene on September 22.

The following day will be spent at Princes Island where the highlight will be a visit to the Rum Orphanage, one of the three largest timber buildings in the world which is currently under threat.
