International Forest Products (Interfor) has reported improved third-quarter results on the back of higher sales.

The British Columbia-based company said profits were C$14.3m, up C$3.7m from a year ago.

Lumber production in the third quarter was 313 million board FT, down 12 million board ft or 4% on the previous quarter, but sales volumes increased by 2 million board ft.

Sales reached C$200.2m, up C$12m or 6.4%, as a result of higher log and lumber sales volumes and prices.

The prices of SPF 2×4 lumber and hem-fir studs in the North American market both increased from the second quarter.

Intefor has also approved a C$24m investment plan to upgrade the company’s Grand Forks and Castlegar sawmills, acquired in 2008.
