More than 6,000 visitors flooded into Birmingham NEC for the opening day of Interbuild 2004.

The exhibition, billed as the construction industry’s premier trade event, also saw about 500 overseas visitors from countries including Taiwan, Syria, Oman, Belgium, Denmark, Canada and Turkey.

Event director Steve Webb said: “A high percentage of them have come in search of innovations and to check up on the very latest techniques. Providing that service has always been one of the strengths of Interbuild.”

He said the majority of people attending the first day of the April 25-29 show were small businessmen and tradesmen.
