The Chartered Institute of Building is looking to form a partnership with the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) to help improve standards on construction sites.

An initial agreement has already been reached between Clive Benfield, chairman of the institute’s chartered building company and consultancy board, and CCS chairman David Hardy. If ratified by the institute’s main board, all chartered building companies will have to register their sites with CCS.

Mr Benfield said the Considerate Constructors Scheme would complement the institute’s “Change in our Sites” campaign, designed to improve site conditions, encourage respect for people and a commitment to employ a fully competent workforce.

Mr Benfield added: “It will also assist us in benchmarking our members’ performance against non-chartered companies.”
