A London loading/unloading code of practice has been launched to reduce the burden of parking tickets on companies making deliveries in the capital.

The code, supported by a range of stakeholders including the Freight Transport Association, London Chamber of Commerce and the CBI, sets out guidelines for delivery drivers, parking attendants and traffic authorities.

One London timber merchant described the code as a well produced document which would help the company’s drivers making deliveries.

He said: “We feel abused with parking tickets. There are many, many instances where we feel we are treated very unjustly. It’s a significant cost to us as a business throughout the year.”

The company has already handed out copies of the code to its drivers.

The code is currently supported by the City of Westminster, Transport for London and the Borough of Camden. It will be rolled out to more London boroughs in the coming months.
