Meetings with the companies – BSW Timber plc, Finnforest, Wolseley, Arnold Laver, Jeld-Wen and Swedish glulam specialist Martinsons Byggsystem – were held at the London offices of CLM, the consortium appointed by the Olympic Delivery Authority to help it project manage the delivery programme for the venues and infrastructure of the 2012 Games.

The businesses were selected by the steering group of the Wood for Gold campaign, which is lobbying for the use of timber at the Olympics.

Each had 30 minutes to give a presentation, followed by at least 30 minutes of discussion.

Topics covered included order and material tracking, health and safety, “responsible and sustainable sourcing”, “providing evidence of a sustainable solution”, waste minimisation and “best value benchmarking”.

A spokesperson for the ODA said its aim in meeting timber industry respresentative was to invite feedback on its plans, as well as to discuss how wood can be supplied for both the permanent venues and temporary construction projects for the Games.

“The discussions were extremely useful and will help shape our final policy and how we begin the procurement process.”
