Indonesia has started a ban on the export of illegally-harvested timber and wood products, according to The Jarkata Post.

The action follows the European Parliament’s recent decision in favour of a ban on the import of illegally harvested wood products to Europe.

The Timber Legality Verification System is being applied to industrial forest concessions, production forest concessions and community plantation forests and is designed to ensure that companies source timber legally.

The European Commission is currently in negotiations with Indonesia about entering into a Voluntary Partnership Agreement. An agreement is expected to be signed later this year.
