A further 13 operating licences of industrial timber plantation companies in Indonesia could be revoked by the Ministry of Forestry.
The move is part of the ministry’s policy to restructure the country’s industrial timber plantation concessionaires into an efficient timber source according to spokesperson Koes Saparjadi.
The ministry took similar action against 14 other companies last month, 13 of which took their cases to the Jakarta Administrative Court for settlement. A ruling has yet to be finalised.
The Association of Indonesian Forest Concessionaires is critical of the move. It believes the ruling will cause about 28,000 losses across the forest products industry.
