Indonesia is working on a draft law aimed at cracking down on illegal logging.
An inter-departmental team is formulating the bill, which legislators have welcomed as an answer to the lack of regulation on the issue.
Forestry minister Malam Sambat Kaban said the House of Representatives would take over the bill if the team was unable to finalise the draft.
Dr Ishartanto, a member of the House’s Commission IV, said the bill needed involvement from other agencies such as the forestry ministry and law enforcment bodies.
The draft law is also intended to speed up the settlement of illegal logging cases.
